General
Cloud Computing is one of the most significant technology disruptions in recent history, with fundamental implications for Enterprise Architecture. Cloud service providers continue to evolve their cloud portfolios, often offering innovative solutions exclusively as cloud services. However, most user organizations continue to operate their own IT infrastructure in parallel and struggle with a coherent cloud adoption strategy. This often leads to inefficiencies and data exchange problems between different environments. Architects need to act quickly and hence must be familiar with the technology and potential solution patterns.
Course Content
This advanced course introduces the basic concepts of Cloud Computing. It focuses on the different service models (such as IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and the resulting architectures, as well as the more general impact on Enterprise and Data Architecture. Participants will then have the opportunity to discuss their organization's cloud strategy (if any) and/or analyze planned projects in terms of their potential deployment options and pitfalls. The course covers the following topics in detail
- Definition and delineation of Cloud Computing
- Service models of Cloud Computing (especially IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
- Multi-Cloud Architectures and their impacts (especially on Data Architecture)
- Decision criteria for selecting service models and architectures
- Security aspects of cloud-based applications
- Approaches to evaluating and managing cloud-based solutions from an EA perspective
