Application Landscape Planning
Background
Most organizations already have more or less developed EA practices in place. However, there are often shortcomings in implementation that significantly limit its effectiveness. Common problems include poor stakeholder acceptance, communication and governance. Often, there are also deficiencies in staffing, skills, and tool usage. As a result, effective implementation of strategies and transformation programs are compromised.
EA Health Check
An ideal starting point for optimizing and/or realigning your EA practice is our EA Health Check. The health check is based on the proven Capability Assessment Model EAM³, which enables a systematic measurement of the capabilities required for effective architecture management along seven dimensions (and approximately 125 checkpoints). With the EA Health Check, we can quickly and easily examine your EA implementation for weaknesses. From this, we derive concrete measures for optimization and/or realignment. The Health Check is also suitable for long-term monitoring and for comparison with other peer organizations. To support this, we can draw on an extensive database (benchmarking conducted since 2013).
EA Realignment
Existing deficiencies and failures often require a complete realignment of architecture management. Beyond the Health Check, a more comprehensive approach is required then, following our methodology for the initial EA adoption. Our EA realignment starts with identifying and prioritizing the relevant use cases for EA. Subsequently, the affected services, processes, and tools can be adjusted. In addition to that, special communication and training measures, as well as an overall change management, are often required. This way, we make sure that EA can finally fulfill its mandate and deliver value.
EA Radar
Many architects find it challenging to keep track of important architectural decisions and to organize timely resolutions. Our EA Radar provides a systematic and proven solution for this. In the EA Radar, open architectural decisions are visualized in the form of a portfolio matrix (according to urgency, decision maturity, and impact). With the EA Radar, upcoming architectural decisions can be regularly reported and reliably brought to resolution.
EA Reporting / KPIs
Traditional qualitative views are often insufficient for managing today's complex enterprise architectures. Managing and reducing the complexity surplus, in particular, requires the addition of quantitative tools such as architecture KPIs and a corresponding reporting. We have bundled our experience and solutions in this area in our EA Reporting toolkit. This enables you to quantitatively measure and regularly report on your enterprise architecture – from business to application to technology architecture. The toolkit includes a catalog of proven architecture and complexity metrics, typical use cases and result views. In addition, we provide support for implementing the metrics in the EA tool.
EA Communication
Communicating EA concepts and results has always been one of the biggest challenges for architects. In fact, the abstract content often requires a striking presentation or translation for non-architects. Our EA Communication toolkit offers extensive support in this regard. It contains a unique collection of proven tools to effectively and appropriately communicate EA and its key deliverables to different audiences. These include analogies, metaphors, storytelling principles, and corresponding visualizations.
